My work in mid-century modern design and collecting is a personal passion. I look all over for great bargains, refurbish the furniture, or sometimes, create a new piece that speaks to the period.

Ikea Bench Hack

I use furniture "hacking" as a way to use the creative and problem-solving part of my brain. Sometimes it leads to something I can hang on the wall.

Introducing the Ikeaclock! Using an Ikea Acacia wood bench, I removed the four legs. I then cut a round clock face and used copper indicators at 12 and 6 o'clock.

One of the biggest challenges was the pendulum. Then, I discovered an old car oil dipstick in the garage. It worked perfectly!

Crate & Barrel: A Bright Future

For a rebranding prototype, I asked, what might it look like if Crate & Barrel changed strategy and moved towards a brighter color palette?

C&B has always been one of my favorite furniture stores. It’s a challenge affording new, but you can find great bargains used.

Hans Wegner: Timeless Seating

Hans Wegner was a Danish furniture designer who contributed significantly to the development of chair design.

He was known for his exceptional attention to detail, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of materials.

One of his most notable contributions was the introduction of the concept of “organic functionality” into chair design. This idea meant that the chair’s form and function should blend harmoniously, with the chair’s structural elements forming the basis for comfort and support.
